After strawberries come raspberries, from mid-July, then blueberries, which rule the month of August: two easy pickings, standing up and without bending, in fields where you eat as much as you fill. This guide gathers Quebec farms offering pick-your-own blueberries or raspberries, with each one’s listing, dates and prices.
When to go
Summer raspberries from mid-July to mid-August, fall raspberries into September; highbush blueberries from early August to mid-September in the south, wild blueberries in Lac-Saint-Jean and on the Côte-Nord from late July. Fields close once picked over: check the listing that morning.
Good to know
You pay by weight or by container; raspberries are picked ripe, when they come off without pulling, and eaten the same day; blueberries keep a week in the fridge and freeze flat. Hat, water and long sleeves against raspberry thorns.
With kids
Blueberries are the ideal pick for toddlers: at child height, no thorns, and no harm done when some fall on the ground. A container tied to the belt frees the hands; a mission (fill to the line) gives a goal, and the evening pie, a reward.
