From late September, pumpkin patches open their rows and the outing becomes a fall ritual: pick the biggest, the roundest or the strangest one, hoist it into the wheelbarrow and bring it home to carve before Halloween. Most farms add a tractor ride, a corn maze, a petting farm or a stand with donuts and hot cider. This guide brings together the Quebec farms that offer pick-your-own pumpkins, with each venue’s listing, dates and prices.
When to go
The season runs from late September to Halloween, peaking on the first two weekends of October, often the busiest of the year. Aim for mornings or weekdays; after rain, bring boots, since the fields get muddy. Many farms post the state of the fields and the open activities on their listing every day.
Good to know
You pay per pumpkin, by weight or with an admission fee that covers the activities, depending on the farm. A medium pumpkin weighs five to ten kilos: bring a sturdy bag or use the wheelbarrows lent on site. Decorative varieties (white, green, bumpy) are often sold separately near the entrance.
With kids
Give everyone a mission: the heaviest pumpkin they can carry alone, the one with the best shape for a face, the smallest one for their bedroom. Toddlers love the tractor ride out to the field; older kids, the corn maze. Pack clothes that can get dirty, a snack and wipes, and finish at the farm stand: the apple donut is part of the tradition.
